# ZYMKEY Battery. Do i need it?

Hello,
Simple question however, I am struggling to find the answer.
I am looking to use Zymbit keys for my project but do not require the Real Time Clock function or the tamper features.
Do I need to have a battery installed at all?
Is there any advantages or disadvantages in installing or not installing a battery?

The battery is required to maintain the Real Time Clock and the perimeter detect circuits when the host power is removed. Without the battery, these two functions will not be active when the host power is removed.
